HARTFORD — The introduction of slot machines such as the Shoreline Star at Sports and Bridgeport Haven at New Haven, to many places that are pari-mutuel, might sweeten the pot to approval of a third Japanese casino. Democratic majority leaders of the House on Monday said that while the slots could mean little in the way of local tax earnings, or pay weeks for Sportech, the international betting-pool firm that runs the off track gambling in Connecticut, slot machines would give gamblers yet another reason to stay near home. Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz along with House Majority Leader Matt Ritter said that lawmakers in New Haven, Bridgeport and Waterbury are requesting for some sort of related spin-off if a brand new casino – a joint venture from the Mashantucket Pequot and the Mohegan tribal nations, is accepted for East Windsor. The point of an third casino will be to stem the visitors and gambling money, from shifting to the billion-dollar MGM Resort casino under construction in Springfield, Mass..
