Adobe Flash Player users urged to disable software after it lets criminals infect computers

A “critical” security issue in Adobe Flash Player is putting computer users at risk.

The vulnerability is being manipulated by a group named BlackOasis, which is utilizing Microsoft Office “lure documents” to assault people around the planet, including in the united kingdom.

Adobe has acknowledged the issue and published a security update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Chrome OS.

The issue, which was discovered by Kaspersky Labs’ Anton Ivanov, has once more put Flash in the spotlight.

The program is being killed off at 2020, but for many that date can not arrive soon enough.  

It’s been less and less useful over the decades, but is always being manipulated by cyber criminals, that keep finding security holes which they can  use   to attack consumers.

This newest undesirable incident has renewed calls for individuals to completely disable it.

“After setup, the malware determines a foothold on the attacked computer and links to its own command and control servers located in Switzerland, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, to await additional directions and exfiltrate data,” clarified Kaspersky Lab.

Adobe has clarified the issue as “a important type confusion vulnerability”, which means cyber offenders could use it to infect sufferers with malware without them realising.

“Adobe is aware of a record that an exploit for CVE-2017-11292 exists in the wild, and is used in limited, targeted attacks against consumers running Windows,” it said.

Kaspersky recommends disabling Flash Player, so as to stay protected.

“The assault employing the newly discovered zero-day exploit is the third time this season we have observed FinSpy supply through broadcasts to zero-day vulnerabilities,” Anton Ivanov added.  

“Formerly, actors deploying this malware abused critical issues in Microsoft Word and Adobe goods. We believe the amount of attacks relying on FinSpy software, supported by zero day exploits such as the one explained here, may continue to grow.”
